Iowa Masters tees off

The Iowa Masters golf tournament is underway at the Veenker golf course in Ames. Clubhouse manager Tess Balsley says 212 participants are teeing off today in a senior division of players 50 and over, and the open division.All the golfers play today and again tomorrow.She says they make a cut Saturday that whittles down about half the field. Defending champion Matt Gatchell of Huxley is one of the notables playing in the tournament this year.Balsley says the golfers will battle the heat, but says the course won’t be dried out as they got some rain and it’s in great shape.The final round is on Sunday.
