Four drown in weekend accidents

July 8, 2002 By admin

At least four people drown in Iowa during the hot, holiday weekend. Linn County authorities found the bodies of two teenage boys Sunday night who’d gotten caught in the current of the Cedar River while swimming earlier in the day at Palisades-Kepler Park, near Cedar Rapids. In northwest Iowa, the body of an 18-year-old man from Storm Lake was also recovered Sunday. Witnesses say Luis Zaragoza went under after his raft overturned Saturday night. In southeast Iowa, the body of a 40-year-old Keokuk man was found Sunday along the Mississippi River after he’d reportedly fallen out of a boat during a 4th of July fireworks show. He couldn’t swim and was not wearing a life vest.
