Gas prices go up again

July 19, 2002 By admin

It costs a bit more to fill the gas tank this month. Gasoline prices jumped seven cents the past month according to the latest state survey.State fuel market analyst David Downing says the average price for a gallon of self-serve unleaded is a dollar-37. But prices ranged as low as a buck-27, and as high as a dollar-56.Crude oil prices went up nine percent in the past month, and Downing says since the price of crude accounts for about a third of the cost of gasoline, pump prices jumped, too. Downing says there are refinery problems, too as a refinery in Minnesota is down and that’s pushed prices back up.The most expensive gas is in southeast Iowa. The cheapest was found in Ames and Council Bluffs.
