Former Spirit Lake cop sues city, police chief

July 23, 2002 By admin

Former Spirit Lake police officer Doug Rickee is suing the city, Mayor Eric Nielsen and police chief John Martyr alleging he was wrongfully fired. Rickee says his firing stemmed from a meeting with a city council committee to talk about alleged wrongdoing by the former police chief. Rickee says he was fired after telling the mayor the problems continued after the old chief was fired. The new chief, John Martyr, says Rickee was fired for multiple actions that “showed a clear pattern of subversion.”
