2A Softball tourney opens with no-hitter

July 30, 2002 By admin

There were two class 2A state quarterfinals last night. Jackie Sorensen fired a four-inning no-hitter as 10th-ranked Clear Creek-Amana beat 12th-ranked Carlisle 12-0 in the first Class 2A quarterfinal of the night. The second game was a thriller, as Krystal Grundmeier and Leigh Christensen socked back-to-back bases-loaded singles to give 15th-ranked Belmond-Klemme a 3-2 win over MOC-Floyd Valley. B-K coach Howard Dorman talks says he told his kids to get up and get on base going into the bottom of the seventh. He says they weren’t waiting for their pitches. Dorman says the momentum shifted the Lady Broncos way in the latter innings, as they went from going home and coming back losers, to going home and coming back winners.Dorman picked up his 901st win with the victory, and says it was sweeter than his 900th win, which came in the regional final over defending 2A champion Webster City. Belmond-Klemme highest finish is 7th place in the 1994 and 2000 2A tournaments.
