Williamsburg looks to play giant killer in softball tourney

July 30, 2002 By admin

Williamsburg begins tournament play tonight against fifth-ranked Independence in the Class 2-A quarterfinals. Williamsburg is one of just a handful of teams coming into the tournament with a losing record. It’s the first time at state for the Raiders since 1995, when their coach was Kirt Richie. This year his wife, Kim Richie, is head coach. The Raiders come into this game with a nothing-to-lose attitude toward Independence, which has a much better 43-and-6 record. Richie has yet to see the Independence team play this year.
