Bad checks turn up in Buena Vista County

September 2, 2002 By admin

Some merchants in Buena Vista County have been conned by writers of some official-looking bad checks. Police were called to the Fareway store in Storm Lake Saturday afternoon, and arrested 52-year-old Martin Chosa-Hernandez of Sioux City. Clerks told the cops they got suspicious they noticed that addresses on some of the IBP “payroll” checks were locations that don’t exist in Storm Lake. Police started checking with other area businesses, and say they determined their suspect and two other men successfully cashed seven of the fraudulent checks at three other stores in Storm Lake, for a total of 33-hundred dollars. They’re looking for two more Hispanic males, and Chosa Hernandez is charged with two felonies: forgery and ongoing criminal conduct.
