The only Democrat Congressman from Iowa is likely to vote to give President Bush the authority to use military action against Iraq. Congressman Leonard Boswell of Des Moines says Bush is making the case for action, but Boswell says it’s important to get the backing of the American people before Congress takes a vote on the issue. Boswell, a Vietnam vet, says they don’t want to do something that’s not supported by the American people.Boswell’s Republican opponent, Stan Thompson of Des Moines, says he, too, believes Bush is making a strong case that Iraq poses a “real threat” to the world. Thompson says the U-S has to determine what risk Iraq poses with nuclear and biological weapons before deciding to go ahead.Boswell and Thompson made their comments Friday on Iowa Public Television.
