Iowa not on list of companies friendly to mothers

September 24, 2002 By admin

The new list of the top one hundred companies for working mothers is out — and so, apparently, is Iowa. The annual list is compiled by Working Mother magazine and this year features -no- companies based in Iowa, though several companies have outlets in the Hawkeye State, including American Airlines, General Mills, B-P, Bank of America, Merrill Lynch and Marriott Hotels. A magazine spokesperson I talked with couldn’t remember the last time an Iowa company made the top one hundred. As for Iowa’s neighbors, the list features -no- South Dakota companies, one each from Wisconsin and Missouri, two each from Nebraska and Minnesota and nine from Illinois.
