Davenport man arrested after high-speed chase

October 14, 2002 By admin

A Davenport man is in the Scott County Jail after a high-speed chase Sunday afternoon through neighboring Bettendorf. Bettendorf police say they spotted the red Chevy Blazer driving erratically and tried to pull it over — but the driver sped away, running several stop signs and stop lights, at speeds up to 90 miles an hour. The chase involved four Bettendorf squad cars and two from Davenport. It ended when the driver, 23-year-old Charles Ewert of Davenport, hit a tree. Police say he fled on foot but was quickly caught and had only minor injuries from the crash. Ewert is jailed on 24-thousand dollars bond on 16 charges, including driving while intoxicated.
