Cyclones waiting to find bowl destination

December 5, 2002 By admin

The Iowa Hawkeyes await the B-C-S selection process to find out which bowl game they will be headed to and the Iowa State Cyclones will have to wait as well. The most likely possibilities for the Cyclones are the Humanitarian Bowl in Boise, Idaho and the Motor City Bowl in Detroit.Iowa State athletic director Bruce Van De Velde says they’ll know early Sunday afternoon where they’re going. He says where the Cyclones end up will be determined in part by how many Big-12 teams land in B-C-S bowls. He says if Cincinnati defeats East Carolina that frees up a Humanitarian Bowl trade involving South Florida which would send the Cyclones to Detroit and provide a better chance for Cyclone fans to travel as they could drive there and wouldn’t have to hassle with getting plane tickets. Van De Velde says under no scenario will the Cyclones be left out of the bowl picture. While there is a lot of uncertainty right now, Van De Velde says it is a nice problem to have. He says it’s always great to be in contention for post season play.
