Eve of the Powerball drawing

December 25, 2002 By admin

Iowans who haven’t yet purchased tickets for tonight’s mammoth Powerball drawing may encounter lines at the ticket outlets that are open on this holiday. Iowa Lottery spokeswoman Mary Neubauer says Christmas Day will throw a kink in some people’s ticket-buying plans. Neubauer says your best bet will be a convenience store or gas station and she predicts there’ll be some lines at outlets that are open and selling Powerball tickets. Neubauer says Powerball ticket sales are usually the strongest on the day of a drawing, but today may be an exception, since it’s a day people traditionally spend with families. The jackpot is estimated at 280-million, but it could grow even larger, depending on how many people get out and buy tickets today. A $280 MILLION prize would be the the third-largest jackpot in Powerball history.
