Dry conditions and a lack of snow cover have sparked another burning ban in Iowa. Due to the extreme dry conditions in southeast Iowa, the Oskaloosa fire department and State Fire Marshall’s office are banning open burning in Mahaska County. The ban will be in effect until there’s some substantial moisture to alleviate the extreme dry conditions according to Oskaloosa Fire Chief Frank Glandon. The ban eliminates open burning of any type of material. Burning bans were issued earlier this week for Wappelo, Appanoose and Keokuk Counties. Oskaloosa’s received only three-tenths of an inch of precipitation since November first.
