Storm causes multiple problems with freezing rain

January 28, 2003 By admin

A storm that’s dumping freezing rain has caused school delays and cancellations, as well as accidents as it’s marched across Iowa today. Sergeant Robert Hansen of the Iowa State Highway Patrol says conditions along Interstate-35 in north and central Iowa are causing mid-day accidents. Hansen says I-35 north of highway 175 has numerous cars in the ditch. In Franklin County, a couple of semis collided along Interstate-35 on the exit ramps, and noone was injured. Several stretches of Iowa highway are 100 percent ice covered. Hansen says that creates very treacherous conditions and he says motorists are wise to wait awhile and let the D-O-T get some melting material down. For the latest road condition report, dial 5-1-1.
