La Porte City woman charged with theft from company

A La Porte City woman is facing charges she bilked her company out of thousands of dollars. 29-year-old Joni Bergmeier is charged with first-degree theft. She’s charged with embezzling just over 10-thousand dollars from Karr Properties in Vinton. Bergmeier worked at the company for two years and is accused of taking rental payments from company tenants and using the money for herself.
