Grassley not ready to dump Greenspan

February 18, 2003 By admin

Some Congressional Republicans say Federal Reserve Board chairman Alan Greenspan stabbed them in the back with his criticism of President Bush’s tax plan, but not Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley. He says Greenspan is simply speaking his mind and Grassley, a Republican, says he will -not- be joining any call for Greenspan to be replaced. Grassley says Greenspan’s future is -not- in doubt. Democrats said Greenspan delivered “the kiss of death” to the President’s one-point-three trillion dollar proposal by saying further tax cuts should be paid for, sending some Republicans into a fury. Grassley says he was not among them.Grassley says Greenspan is seen as “a stabilizing force in government and on the economy, and we need as many stabilizers as we can get.”
