Eastern Iowa business cleans up with junk

April 22, 2003 By admin

An eastern Iowa business that removes and hauls junk is marking Earth Day by training its employees about recyclables. Sue Lorfeld, owner of 1-800-GOT-JUNK in Davenport, says many of the stuff her workers pick up can be recycled. About 50- to 60-percent of the appliances, furniture, clothes, tires and other items we pick up can be recycled. Lorfeld says her company has to pay a fee every time it dumps junk at the landfill, so recycling more junk instead of dumping it makes a lot of sense. Lorfeld says 1-800-GOT-JUNK is starting up franchises in Cedar Rapids, Iowa City and Des Moines, all with the same premise. The company takes anything city trash haulers and organizations like the Salvation Army won’t take, from yard debris to refrigerators full basement or garage cleanouts. Other than toxic, they take it all. For more information, consult “www.1800gotjunk.com”.
