Wartburg looks for lucky 7 baseball title

May 8, 2003 By admin

The Iowa Conference baseball tournament begins this afternoon in Waterloo and Wartburg will be looking for a seventh straight league title. Cornell is the trop seed after finishing the regular season race 12-5. Wartburg was 10-6, Simpson 10-7 and Loras and Dubuque were both 10-8. The Conference title is awarded based on a combination of the regular season and postseason tournament. After a balanced league race Simpson coach John Sirianni says it all comes down to this weekend. Sirianni says any of the teams in the tournament can feel like they can win it. He says it’s the first time in his 18 years at Simpson he’s seen such balance. The tournament opens at one with a game between Cornell and Buena Vista.
