The Northern Iowa baseball team closes the regular season with four home games this week beginning with tonight’s matchup against Western Illinois. The main focus for the Panthers is this weekend’s Missouri Valley Conference series with Indiana State. At 14-13, the Panthers are fourth in the Valley race. The top six teams advance to the conference post season tournament. UNI coach Rick Heller says the Panthers control their own post season fate and tonight can play some kids to get them experience. He says they’ve played well all year long so he feels good about their chances. After starting conference play 1-9, Heller says he is proud of the way his team has battled back. He says this year’s team has given him one of the most satisfying of his career after they’ve fought through all the injuries and setbacks.
