Mason City bus driver arrested on second drunk-driving offense

June 11, 2003 By admin

A Mason City school bus driver is charged with drunk driving for the second time in less than three weeks. 51-year-old Jay Charles Powell was arrested Tuesday afternoon for O-W-I after allegedly being involved in a hit-and-run accident. Mason City police responded to a call of a vehicle being struck by an auto driven by a male. Police later pulled over Powell a short distance from his home. Powell was charged with O-W-I on May 23rd after his Huffman Transportation bus struck a parked car near Roosevelt Elementary School. There were no students on the bus at the time of that accident. Mason City police say Thomas still has a valid driver’s license pending a Department of Transportation hearing on his license revocation from the first incident.
