New airline takes off in Des Moines

A new airline inaugurated service in Iowa this week. Allegiant Air is finding a niche with vacation trips from medium-size markets direct to Las Vegas. Spokesman Mike Peterson says it’s a perfect fit. Scheduled service is focused on Vegas, and they already fly from Fresno, Colorado Springs, Wichita, Des Moines, and next month add Lansing, Michigan and Denver, and they also fly charter flights. It’s the only flight offered in Iowa by Allegiant, a low-cost nonstop trip from Des Moines to Las Vegas, and Peterson says by specializing the company expects to do well, selling tickets to Iowans who now drive all the way to Kansas City to take a flight..
