Deadline approaches for "Iowan of the Day" nominations

June 28, 2003 By admin

Time is running out for you to nominate a friend or family member for their fifteen minutes of fame at the Iowa State Fair. Kate McKenna is a spokesperson for the Iowa Sate Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation which is looking for 10 people to serve as “Iowan of the Day” at this year’s fair. She says they want to spotlight and thank individuals who make important contributions to their communities. McKenna says those chosen for the honor will get a variety of perks. Those chosen receive an award ceremony, 200 dollars cash, VIP parking, gate admission, a golf cart for the day, four tickets to a Grandstand show, hotel accommodations at the Des Moines Marriott, and one-year subscriptions to Iowan Magazine and Iowa Gardener. The nomination deadline is July 1st. McKenna says it’s easy to nominate someone. She says you can get a nomination form at your local library, go on-line at www.blueribbonfoundation.org, or contact the Blue Ribbon Foundation (800) 450-3732. McKenna says a panel will select the winners and announce them in July. The 2003 Iowa State Fair is August 7-17th.
