Voters in the Independence school district found out just how important their votes are, as a bond issue went down to a narrow defeat. The bound would have paid half the bill for a new high school and required 60-percent voter approval to pass. The issue received 59-point-eight-three percent approval in yesterday’s election. The Buchanan County Auditor says 36-percent of the registered voters turned out for the vote.
