American troops are welcoming the deaths of Saddam’s two sons in a U.S. military raid Tuesday. Iowa Congressman Steve King, a Republican from Kiron, agrees with the troops, saying it’s encouraging to have two more key Iraqis out of the picture. Some fear the deaths could trigger more ambush attacks on coalition forces. One Army commander says some Iraqi insurgents will be “demoralized” by the deaths — but he says others will be inspired to take what he calls “more drastic measures.” Congressman King says with the deaths of Saddam’s two sons, the search can now zero in on Saddam himself. King says some people had given up hope the two would be captured but the operation went very smoothly and there was no loss of U.S. lives. In the long run, he says, it will mean saving thousands of Iraqi lives, and those of American peacekeepers. King was scheduled to take part in a classified briefing with Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld this afternoon.
