Iowa’s Department of Public safety announced today that a state trooper was fired a week and a half ago. The department began an investigation in April after accusations that patrol officers Michael Doubleday and William Breshears tore up a speeding ticket in exchange for the driver’s promise to donate money to a southern Iowa fire department. Today (Wednesday) Public Safety agency spokesman Jim Saunders read a short statement with no further comment.Saunders says Doubleday “separated employment” from the DPS back on July 11, working at the time as a state Trooper in District Two in Osceola. Doubleday was also a volunteer firefighter. The D-C-I was involved in the investigation of the charges, and the Clarke County attorney looked into it but decided not to file charges.
