Murder charged dismissed in Sioux County

August 20, 2003 By admin

A controversial murder charge has been dismissed in northwest Iowa. A District court judge dismissed the latest charge against Christine Van Oort today (Wednesday). Sioux County sheriff Jim Schweisow filed a complaint charging Van Oort with killing Rolena Vande Vegte in October 2001. Van Oort was already charged with first-degree murder in the death of an elderly man last fall. He and the woman both lived at the Valley manor Nursing home where Van Oort worked as a nurses’ aide. Sioux County attorney Melissa O-Rourke wasn’t told about the charges till Sheriff Schweisow had filed them with the clerk of court, and they were dismissed after the sheriff couldn’t produce enough evidence. Van Oort will stand trial in Post’s death and remains jailed on 100-thousand-dollars bail.
