The Meskwaki tribal election is scheduled for later this month, but the election process gets started tomorrow night on the settlement west of Tama. A nomination caucus will be held tomorrow night at seven o’clock in the gymnasium of the Sac and Fox Tribal Center. Then, next Tuesday, a primary election will be held. The general election will be held on Tuesday, October 21st from eight a.m. to eight p.m. The same hours will stand for the primary election next Tuesday. To be eligible to vote, you must be a tribal member and be at least 21 years old. The Meskwakis have been caught up in a tribal dispute since an appointed tribal council led by Homer Beat took control of tribal offices and assets in March, leading to the closure of the tribe’s casino in May. Thirteen-hundred people were put out of work, and the tribe’s been losing three-million dollars a week.
