The 34th annual Madison County Covered Bridges Festival opens today (Saturday) in Winterset. Brenda Hollingsworth is one of the co-chairs of the celebration who says the events are centered around the town square. She says they have crafts, and nonstop entertainment on two stages. On Saturday there’ll be bus tours all day and Sunday is the parade and car show. There are a couple of book signings. One of the books is called “Bridges in Time” and the book was used as the centerpiece and theme of the festival this year. The book features poetry and pictures of the bridges. Hollingsworth says the bus tours of the bridges start at 10 A.M. each day. They offer two tours, one of three bridges, and the other features all the bridges. She says the three-bridge tour is six dollars and the other is ten dollars. Hollingsworth says they’ll also have a special area for kids at this year’s celebration.
