Defiance woman charged with killing her husband

October 22, 2003 By admin

A western Iowa woman is accused in the slaying of her husband — after his remains were found yesterday at their home in Defiance. The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office says Dixie Shanahan is charged with the first-degree murder of Scott Shanahan. Reports say Scott Shanahan may have been dead for up to one year. An autopsy completed yesterday indicates that he had been shot to death. Scott Shanahan had been missing since August of 2002. Authorities started investigating his disappearance three months ago. Dixie Shanahan has been charged with first-degree murder and is being held in the Shelby County Jail on bond of 150-thousand dollars. Her children, ages seven years, five years and eight months, have been taken into protective custody.
