Many motorists ticketed in special holiday action

The Iowa State Patrol’s Sergeant Genie Clemens they handed out 547 seatbelt citations, and arrested 43 people for drunk driving. Of the four people who died on Iowa’s roads over the holiday weekend, Sergeant Clemens says three were not wearing seatbelts. Iowa’s a state where troopers can pull a driver over just for not buckling up. The troopers can also pull you over for not having a child restrained, and this weekend gave out 11 child-restraint citations. Not everyone was unhappy to see a squad car’s lights in their rear-view mirror, as she says 315 motorists were assisted by troopers, in cases from breakdowns to needing a tow or just getting directions.
