Iowa tackle Robert Gallery became the third Hawkeye to win the Outland Trophy as the nation’s top lineman during the Home Depot College Football Awards show on E-S-P-N Thursday night. Gallery was presented the award by native Iowan Chad Hennings, who won the Outland Trophy during a standout career at the Air Force Academy in 1987. Gallery would have been a high draft pick a year ago but decided to stay for his senior year and helped lead the Hawkeyes to a 9-3 record and a spot in the Outback Bowl January first against Florida. Gallery says he learned a lot from a lot of great coaches and credited them with helping him develop. Recently Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz said in the last quarter century no lineman played their position better than Robert Gallery. Gallery said that meant a lot to him. He also credited his teammates for being a bunch of great guys.
