A development project in the eastern Iowa city of Cedar Rapids is getting a big boost from a local company. Mayor Paul Pate says AEGEON USA is donating one-million dollars to the area known as “Destination Southside.” He says they’re putting in a city market center, a 60-acre clearwater lake for scuba diving and fishing, trails, an amphitheater, and they’re closing a landfill to make it into a wetland. Pate says this donation is part of their nine-point-five million dollar private fundraising goal.He says this helps put them halfway toward their goal. Pate says they have several million dollars in housing developments that’re being built around the area too. Pate says this gives Cedar Rapids a top destination to sell along with the rest of the city.Construction on portions of the project are expected to get underway in the coming year.
