Senate President may run for Governor

February 13, 2004 By admin

Recently-elected Senate President Jeff Lamberti, a republican from Ankeny, is contemplating a run for Governor in 2006. Lamberti says “it’s a little early to make that decision,” but he would not rule out a bid for state government’s top political jobs. Lamberti made his comments during taping of an Iowa Public Television program, and he deflected other questions about his political future.Lamberti says he’s been Senate President for less than five weeks, and he wants to focus on doing the job. Lamberti, an attorney, thought about running for Governor in 2002, but decided against it. He predicts the field of republicans running in 2006 will be “crowded.”
