Iowa faces Michigan in Big Ten Tourney Today

March 12, 2004 By admin

The Iowa Hawkeyes face Michigan in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament today in Indianapolis. The Hawkeye seniors won the tournament as freshman, and coach Steve Alford was asked if that makes the tournament easier. He says he doesn’t know if it’s ever easier to coach, but he says this senior group had done a lot of things. Alford says the seniors have stayed together despite all that’s happened this season. He says the seniors want to have bookend championship careers. Iowa won the games late in the season to get the fourth seed, and Alford says they did some things right. He says they’ve had a good turn of fortune and have handled the ball well and limited their turnovers to allow them to stay in games.Alford says they have to continue to take care of the basketball and shoot well to win. He says you get a lot of excitement and anxiety at neutral sites and he says sometimes the first thing to go are good shooting and turning the ball over. The two teams split their regular season meetings.
