Waterloo police release details on shooting

March 25, 2004 By admin

Waterloo police have released more details on a shooting by an officer Friday. Police responded to a 9-1-1 call, an apparent domestic dispute between 28-year-old Adam Spates Junior and a woman. An officer tried to arrest Spates, but was assaulted and used pepper spray on him. The officer was forced outside and Spates allegedly threw items at backup officers before lunging at officer Adam Galbraith with a pointed kitchen utensil. Galbraith fire three shots at Spates, hitting him once in the face and once in the arm. Spates was treated overnight at the hospital, then arrested on warrants for failure to appear on a contempt of court charge, and a warrant for a parole violation. Office Galbraith was placed on administrative leave while the shooting is investigated.
