Republican lawmakers say they have different education spending priorities than Democrat Governor Tom Vilsack does. Vilsack yesterday repeated his demand that legislators supply another 21 million dollars for public schools in their state budget outline. House Speaker Christopher Rants, a republican from Sioux City, responded. Rants says republicans have put their priorities in different areas and, for example, spend more on community colleges than the governor proposed.Rants says republicans are concerned about the escalating cost of community college tuition and decided that was one area where they wanted to spend more money. Rants says republicans just have different spending priorities than Vilsack. Rants says it may not be possible to bridge some of those differences.
