Wapello County officials say girl died from meningitis

Wapello County health officials say a 20-year-old woman died from bacterial meningitis Thursday after being taken to a hospital in Iowa City Jessica Eakins lived in Bloomfield and was a former student at Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa. Those who had the most exposure to Eakins have been contacted. Those at the highest risk are being treated with antibiotics. The Director of Wapello County Public Health, Lynelle Diers says the risk of the general public for contracting the disease is very low.
