Iowa Conference baseball tourney set for C-R today

The Iowa Conference baseball tournament opens in Cedar Rapids, today, with three first round games. Wartburg won an eighth straight conference title and opens the tournament against sixth-seeded Cornell. The champion earns the automatic bid to the division-three regionals.Wartburg coach Joel Holst feels the Knights need to win the tournament to advance. He says it will be very difficult to get an at-large bid as there are only about four.Luther finished second in the conference race and opens against Coe. The Norse have won ten straight. Luther coach Jeff Gillogly says pitching and defense will be the key. He says they have to get production out of both to have a chance.The final first round game tonight matches Simpson and Central.
