Girls set to race around the blue track at state

The girls’ state track meet opens tomorrow at Drake Stadium. Class 1-A’s H-L-V will be fielding competitors in nine events. H-L-V coach Mike Deekman says it may be a school record at least in recent history, as last year they took eight events.H-L-V will field teams for five relays. In individual events, coach Deekman has high hopes for Ellen Thys in the discus. He says she comes in with a great distance, and has been to Des Moines a few times, so she has experience.Thys was a runner-up in the 1-A discus competition at last year’s state track meet. She placed 4th in last month’s Drake Relays.
