Man carries cross into Iowa

June 18, 2004 By admin

A man bearing his own cross is making his way through Iowa, spreading the word that people need God in their lives. Simply known as “Cross Carrier Chuck,” 42-year-old Chuck Johnson is traveling across the country on foot, toting only a backpack and a white plastic ten-foot tall cross on wheels. Originally from California, Johnson has been making treks for eighteen years and started this particular journey five years ago from Tijuana, Mexico. During a stop in Oskaloosa, he said he’s in the process of heading to Minnesota to spend a week fishing with his father. Johnson anticipates finishing his last journey five years from now and will then work to publish a book of his cross-carrying stories.
