A Waterloo man is going to prison for illegally organizing marriages for the employees of his convenience stores. 38-year-old Muhammad Anwar was sentenced to six months in prison.Anwar was indicted in November of last year on one count of conspiracy to commit marriage fraud and one count of aiding and abetting marriage fraud.A jury found him guilty in February. Anwar owns and operates several convenience stores and brought in people from his native Pakistan to work in the stores. He was found guilty of getting U.S. women to marry the employees so they could stay in the country after their Visas expired. He reportedly offered them cash, vehicles and other incentives if they got married. He was also fined 10-thousand dollars and will have to serve three years of supervised release after his gets out of prison.
