Remains found north of Ames now identified

December 15, 2004 By admin

The skeletal remains found at an Interstate-35 rest stop north of Ames in early August have been identified as a Colorado man. Captain Gary Foster, a spokesman for the Story County Sheriff, says two hunters found the remains in some woods near the southbound I-35 rest area, and the body is that of 30-year-old Chad James Schwab of Snowmass, Colorado. Troopers found a vehicle parked at the rest area several weeks before the body was discovered in the woods nearby. The vehicle was registered to Schwab. Investigators used D-N-A to confirm the body was Schwab. Foster says officials haven’t determined the cause of death, and despite an extensive investigation, officials haven’t found any evidence of foul play. The case is now considered closed and won’t be opened until more evidence is discovered.
