Keokuk duplex heavily damaged by fire

December 25, 2004 By admin

A Keokuk family and their neighbor are safe after a major fire at their home Friday. Firefighters were called to a two-story brick duplex about 11:30 Friday morning, and found flames already coming from the home. The occupants were identified as Caroline Hendrickson, her son Phillip Potter, his fiance Christina Brooks, and her daughter, three-year-old Hayley. Along with one other man who lived in the duplex, they all escaped safely. Firefighters remained on the scene throughout the day dousing “hot spots” where the fire could re-kindle, and afterward the area was encased in ice as the water froze in the morning’s below-zero temperatures.
