A Davenport man is charged with murder in the weekend death of his seven-week-old son. Davenport Police Captain Dave Struckman says the suspect confessed to shaking the child because he wouldn’t stop crying. Police say 24-year-old Ryan Myrick was charged late Monday with first-degree murder. Struckman says the baby, Colton Myrick, was not breathing when he was taken to a Davenport hospital on Wednesday last week. The infant was later transferred to University Hospitals in Iowa City.Struckman says doctors saw bruising and other signs of shaken baby syndrome and initiated the investigation. Life support was removed on Saturday when it was announced there was no chance for survival. An autopsy found shaken baby syndrome was the cause of death. Struckman says the family donated the infant’s vital organs and they were transplanted into four other babies. The father, Myrick, is in the Scott County Jail awaiting a court appearance. 25-year-old Wendy Temple, Myrick’s girlfriend and the dead child’s mother, was picking up another child from school when the alleged shaking took place.
