Operations are scheduled to resume at the Tyson Foods beef plant in Denison after more than five weeks of suspended production. According to a statement released by Tyson, the Denison beef plant will resume production next Wednesday. This is the first step in a two-week staggered process of resuming operations at several facilities in the upper Midwest and Pacific Northwest that were idled due to market conditions. Tyson chairman and CEO John Tyson says while cattle numbers remain tight, they believe supplies will improve in the months ahead, especially as the anticipated flow of Canadian cattle resumes. Tyson believes it may still be several months before meaningful exports to the Far East resume but they anticipate seasonal improvements in beef demand moving into the spring and summer. The official company statement says once the idled plants resume operations, they will likely still operate at reduced levels of production until market conditions improve.
