Authorities continue to investigate the discovery of a heap of dead animals near Waterloo as, some of the dead animals are not what they were first thought to be. The dumpsite contained over a dozen carcasses of both small and large animals. At first, investigators thought the large bodies were those of greyhound dogs, but after doing further tests, it was determined they were actually coyotes. Officers with Black Hawk County animal control ran the additional tests Wednesday. They say the smaller carcasses were likely raccoons. A man who was walking his dog near Waterloo’s southern border on Sunday made the gruesome discovery. Authorities are still searching for the person or people who are responsible for the crime.
