It did not take long for a record to be broken at the state high school track meet this morning at Drake Stadium. West Harrison freshman Jessica Clark won the class 1A three thousand meter run in a time of ten minutes and 21-point-83-seconds. That shattered the previous record by 30 seconds. She says she ran a personal record of 10-36 at Drake and was overwhelmed to find she set the new record. Clarke says she ran a better tactical race today than she did at the Drake Relays. She says she ran her first four laps at Drake too hard, but that helped her run better today.Cedar Falls N-U High senior Tim McKenna finished strong after a slow early pace to win the boys class 1A 32-hundred meter run for the second straight year. He says he wanted to make sure he had a good kick. After a season full of cold and windy days McKenna welcomed the warmer conditions. The Linn-Mar boys won a second straight four by 800 meter relay title in class 4A. Freshman anchor Zach Braff held off a late charge by Mat Clark of Ames to secure the victory. He says he doesn’t like loosing and says Clark had a very good push.Braff says he tried not to think about the pressure of running the anchor.
