Shelby County Deputy found not guilty

June 17, 2005 By admin

There’s a verdict in the case of a Shelby County Sheriff’s deputy who was accused of voluntary manslaugter. Deputy Chad Butler shot Dwayne Jens after Jens led him on a high-speed chase. KNOD Radio reporter Jason Dinesen has been covering the trial for Radio Iowa. “The jury returned a verdict of not guilty,” Dinesen reported moments ago. “They found Butler not guilty of any wrong-doing in the death of Dwayne Jens.” How long did the jury deliberate? A little over three hours. The jury started deliberations just after one o’clock Friday afternoon and the verdict was read at about 4:30. What was the reaction in the courtroom? Dinesen says most of the folks who’d crowded into the courtroom burst into applause when the verdict was read.
