Blood donations needed in wake of hurricane

August 30, 2005 By admin

If you’re wondering how to help as reports from the hurricane disaster zone pour in, one of the greatest challenges for people there is emergency health care. Jenny Garner is spokeswoman for Mississippi Regional Blood Center in the Quad Cities. There’s such tremendous support from the community, she says the center’s usually able to help when called upon. The center’s already started shipping blood to the region hit by this week’s hurricane. The center gets called upon regularly, she says. “I don’t think a week goes by, or for that matter a day goes by, that we’re not asked to help in some fashion.” She says especially people who haven’t yet donated blood, should get involved so the center can continue to respond. She says blood centers in the south are calling others all over the country for help.
