Rockwell unveils new electronic map for airplanes

September 20, 2005 By admin

An Iowa-based company has unveiled a new-fangled electronic map for airplanes. Cedar Rapids-based Rockwell Collins is offering airlines a new, detailed map for airline cabins to more accurately show passengers the plane’s flight path. The “Airshow 4200 Hi-Focus” moving map will show passengers details of the ground below, like rivers, roads and even buildings they’re flying over. The new “high resolution” map provides 60 times the detail offered by previous electronic maps. The detail on the maps was created using satellite photos and can be offered in 3-D. The maps can also show passengers gate information and provide newscasts from networks like C-N-N and the B-B-C.
